What is McTimoney?
The McTimoney technique was developed by John McTimoney in the 1950s.
It is a non-invasive approach to treating animals, which involves no drugs or anaesthetic and most animals readily accept.
The McTimoney technique aims to align and balance the animal's musculoskeletal system. By manipulating any misaligned joints throughout the whole body, with special attention to the spine and pelvis, it helps both to restore and maintain health, soundness and performance. It works to eliminate the cause and not just treat the symptoms.
What to expect?
- A detailed case history will be taken.
- The animal’s gait will be assessed.
- A careful assessment is made of the spine, pelvis and other joints to look for
any misalignments and/or spasm in the associated muscles.
- The problem areas are treated with precise and rapid adjustments to correct
the misalignments, which in turn reduce the muscle spasms.
The assessment and adjustments are performed using only the hands.
Initially several treatments may be required, and periodic check-ups are advised as a preventative measure and to help achieve optimum performance.
What can cause problems?
Falls, accidents and slips are common causes. Other causes may include the stress of competition, or repetitive activities, poor conformation, poorly fitting tack and even dental problems.
